Ryan Gander - Invocations of the Blank Page - Spike Island

Running along side the "Maelfa" exhibition currently at spike is the "Invocations of the Blank Page" exhibition that is showing in the project space at Spike Island.

The exhibition uses the blank page as a metaphor for the process of creative expression.

Helloblue was commission by Spike Island to print the Ryan Gander image and liaised directly with Ryans studio in order to produce the piece that was printed onto a 200gsm matt Symbio blue back stock.

Below is the image and some information regarding the concept.

Ryan Gander’s large print from the series Felix provides a stage… (2008) documents the making of his work A sheet of paper on which I was about to draw, as it slipped from my table and fell to the floor (a fleet of crystal spheres, each laser-etched with images of falling sheets of paper). Here, the artist stalls the processes of production, dwelling in the moments before the realisation of a work that itself “alludes to the ‘what if’ of the creative process, and the fugitive nature of thought and inspiration.”
